Sony Ericsson plans to launch the Elm and Hazel, two eco-friendly handsets, as part the company's push towards greener features within the next two years.

The joint venture between Japan's Sony and Sweden's Ericsson said the Elm and Hazel are part of Sony Ericsson's "GreenHeart" initiative -- a project to make handsets from recycled plastics and free from hazardous chemicals to help reduce CO2 emissions.

Both handsets also comes with a low-power charger, WalkMate application that lets users compare the steps they take with the equivalent journey by car and a "Green" calculator to show how much CO2 they save when walking.

Sony Ericsson said on it targets a cut of 20 percent of its carbon dioxide emissions by 2015.

They also feature "Noise Shield" technology for better voice quality, a 5.0-megapixel camera, FM radio and music player and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

In June, the company released the C901 and Naite, its first GreenHeart phones.

The Elm and Hazel handsets will be available in the first and second quarters of 2010, respectively.
